Winter Is Coming.

*WARNING: Will contain SPOILERS*

Ok, so by now you should have seen Game of Thrones. If you haven't...what the hell are you doing! Stop reading this post, I have already warned you of spoilers, but go and binge watch the series now!

...Now that's out of the way let's recap the epic show before tonights release of Season 8! I am sooo excited!!

I have tried multiple times to try and write a small synopsis of the show but I end up rambling or not doing the show justice. However James Corden recently performed an amazing and hilarious synopsis of the story here. I have watched the video too many times because it is fantastic!

Game of Thrones first aired back in 2011, however I didn't get into the show until just before season three aired in the UK in 2013. I binge-watched the first two seasons, and even wrote a review on Season One, and I am so glad my favourite characters have made it this far in the story! For any of you wondering some of my favourite characters are: Arya Stark, Daenerys (I'm not even going to attempt to list the rest of her titles), Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister. The multiple narratives and overarching storyline has twisted, turned and taken us on a journey like no other show or film has done before, thank you to the creative mind of George R. R. Martin. The show has really delved further into the world of Ice and Fire as the characters grow and follow their path of fate.

There have been many epic battles and, I think this goes without saying, it has been a rollercoaster of emotions throughout each season and the series as a whole. With that said here are my top five episodes of Game of Thrones:

The Rains of Castamere (S3.9)
I mean this one was a given. After seasons one and two setting the scene and introducing the characters, it was about time a huge monumental shock came to the audience. And trust me...I was shook. This episode should just be renamed 'The Red Wedding' as that is how everyone remembers it. I remember being gobsmacked at some of the beloved characters being killed off just like that. It was a diabolical event, and stabbed a lot of fans in the heart, even those who had read the book were not fully prepared for the masterpiece of filming in that episode. It was this moment that hooked me in to the series for good. I'm still not over the death of Robb Stark, and Walder Fray was definitely top of my kill list after this episode finished.

The Lion and The Rose (S4.2)
Finally the boy king got his comeuppance! I mean this is only a favourite because of his death, sounds mean I know, but Joffrey has to be one of, if not, THE most hated character in television history. Add to that the fact that he was killed by Tyrion, his own brother was fantastic. I mean it would have been even greater if Arya had done it, could you imagine! I believe Joffrey was the worst character in the whole show, he was so spoilt and demanding that it was only time before someone killed him. Let's not forget Margaery Tyrell was a fantastic heroine from then on!

The Door (S6.5)
Right I am going to say it right now but this episode has to be THE saddest episode in Game of Thrones (GoT) to date (while we patiently wait a few more hours for Season 8). Our loveable Hodor finally has a backstory, and a heart wrenching one at that! I remember getting tears in my eyes when the revelation happened: Hold the door...Hodor. Who knew his name was a premonition of things to happen? Another truly shocking moment in GoT history, one that I won't let them live down. I'm certainly not over Hodor's death yet either.

The Battle of The Bastards (S6.9)
In regards to battles, I think this is the most breathtaking battle in GoT for many reasons: firstly it's a moment we didn't want to happen: Jon Snow vs. Ramsey. It was a very good season and Ramsey's character was up there with Joffrey's on the most hated list. But this showdown took my breath away, watching the scene as Rasmey's fleet attacked the small army Jon Snow had brought together to protect Winterfell; then how Sansa, and Little Finger, came to Jon's aid by bringing a small fleet with her too. The direction of the episode was fantastic and the glorious battle sequences displaying the hundreds of bodies piling up and up burying Jon Snow were unforgettable. We can't forget for poor Rickon's death either! Zig-zag!!

The Dragon and The Wolf (S7.7)
Lastly the finale of season seven... It goes without saying that this episode was amazing. We had just seen the awe-struck battle in the North where Daenerys lost one of her dragons to the Night King  (who just so happened to have some huge chains to drag the dragon out of the lake); then we witnessed the attempt of the kingdoms to come together to beat the White Walkers, only for Cersei to happily stay in King's Landing and remain on the throne. The spectators witness Sansa and Arya reunite and execute Little Finger, at last! Jon Snow and Daenerys realise their feelings towards each other; whilst at the same time Sam and Bran come to the realisation that Jon's lineage is greater than what was originally thought. Then finally we witness the monumental cliff hanger that was the Night King riding the Dragon which exhales blue fire(!) and we ultimately witness part of The Wall come crashing down! The White Walkers now have entrance to the rest of the kingdoms! Gasp!

After waiting nearly two years with that lasting moment burned in to my retinas, season eight is finally within hours reach. Hurrah! I am so excited for the final season yet at the same time I don't want Game of Thrones to end. There are far too many theories circling the internet and I don't want to be spoiled but I also don't want any more loveable characters to die. Sadly George R. R. Martin will no doubt have some tricks up his sleeves and what with this season being ahead of the novels, the whole fandom is going in to this season blind.

So without further ado...here's to Season 8 tonight. Happy watching...

Enjoy x
