George Ezra's 2019 Tour

20th March 2019
at The O2 Arena, London.

I'll be riding shotgun
Underneath the hot sun
Feeling like a someone...

On Wednesday I, along with my Mum and my friend, headed to The O2 for a night of fun! We were off to see George Ezra! And of course we were listening to all of George Ezra's songs on the journey up ahead of the night's performance.

When we got to The O2 we ventured around the Icon Outlet; opened in October 2018 the Icon Outlet features lots of big brand names at discount prices, spreading around half of the arena that has been sitting as unused space for many years. Currently the little shopping village sits on the upper level but throughout the year the ground floor level will be opening and bringing more opportunities to the Dome.

After a bit of mooching around the shops, and having some food. We entered the O2 Arena. The opening act was Sigrid. Sigrid is a Norwegian singer songwriter and has shot to fame with songs such as Don't Kill My Vibe and Strangers. She was amazing to see live, her vocals were incredible and she had a lot of energy on stage which the crowd was feeding off and singing along with, having a good time too. Sigrid is currently promoting her debut album Sucker Punch, out now, which I gave a listen to before seeing her perform and even now writing this days after the concert I have some of her catchy songs stuck in my head. Her album is upbeat pop and I'm really loving it, I really like her song Mine Right Now which has an 80's vibe and uses catchy synths.

After a great performance from Sigrid it was time for the main event...George Ezra!
George came out bursting with energy performing Don't Matter Now, a great start to the night. The crowd, a mixture of all ages, were having a fab time singing and dancing along.

In between songs George would describe his journey in the music industry and the inspiration for writing his songs. He spoke about travelling around Europe for his debut album Wanted On Voyage and how he stayed with a lady who he named his second album after, Staying At Tamara's. I thought his witty stories added to the hilariousness and goofiness that has become George Ezra and above all despite the fame he stays humble and sincere, he still thanks the crowd song after song for joining him at The O2.

Some of my favourite crowd moments of the night was when George sang Budapest and the crowd sang the "ooo's" loudly, even getting a smile and small chuckle from the man himself. And you can't forget the crowd singing at the top of their lungs to the final song of the night Shotgun, ending on such a great hit. Everyone came out smiling.

Another phenomenal performance was during Blame It On Me, in which we need to discuss George Ezra's band. They were all having a brilliant night and the brass musicians were outstanding during their solos when the song broke down into a carnival style intermission. It was an awesome extension of the song and allowed the artists to be recognised for their talent too. George was truly superb throughout the night, performing and dancing with different guitars and seeing the crowd react to his songs. A fantastic night all round.

I have to mention the stage design for the tour as I thought this was really cool and different and a vibe that sums up George Ezra's music and style. Before he came on stage the screens displayed "6:59", an alarm clock waking us up to Greg James on the radio introducing George Ezra as the next song to be played. The stage was set up like a living room: comfy, low lights, three huge windows and three victorian fringe-style lampshades dangling from the ceiling. The windows throughout the night were filled with sunrises, sunsets, a blood moon, a jungle, a storm (for Did You Hear The Rain?) etc. I really loved the projections of these and they added to the moods of each song.
One of my favourite parts of the night was when George performed Hold My Girl, and paper floating lanterns lit up the night floating above the crowd (see top photo). I thought it was beautiful. It did initially remind me of Disney's Tangled when Rapunzel sings 'I See The Light', but the lanterns made the night and the songs more cosy and heartwarming.

Overall what a fantastic night! I love George Ezra's music, he is a great performer and entertainer and I would happily see him again and again in the future!
