February Favourites

February has been a weird month when it comes to favourites. I haven't really loved anything to class it as a favourite but here are some of the things I've been reminded of and have been really liking this month...

Artist: P!nk
The BRIT awards were this month and P!nk was awarded with 'Outstanding Contribution to Music'. P!nk has been in the music industry for more than twenty years and her music has been phenomenal throughout. At the Brits (which aired on 20th February) P!nk performed a medley of her songs including her most recently released single 'Walk Me Home'. It was a phenomenal performance and I believe it was the best performance, and highlight, of the evening. She is a true performer through and through.
P!nk is my favourite artist this month because of this moment on the Brits and how it brought back so many memories of some of her top singles. I had to go back and listen to them and it made me remember just how many singles she has brought out. She truly deserves the award.

Album: thank u, next - Ariana Grande
I'm pretty sure this comes as no surprise. Ariana Grande is the most talked about woman on the planet right now and with her album thank u, next being introduced to the world this month I think it is definitely worth a mention. The highly anticipated album released on 8th February went down like a storm, causing Ariana Grande to break so many records and smashing ones she already owned.  The album is a reflection on her past and moment to think on her future. A mixture of different tempos and emotions from the titular track 'Thank U, Next', to haunting songs like 'Ghostin', there are different moods which I find I can listen or skip when needed. I am very much loving 'Bloodline' and 'NASA' at the moment. Ariana Grande is a phoenix that rises from her ashes and shows to the world that you can move on from past scandals and tragedies.

Film: Instant Family
This film was a surprise for me. I went into this film thinking it was an outright comedy but I found it to be more than that. I thought Instant Family was a heartfelt drama with the added comedy brought from the cast. The film centres around Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) as they consider adopting a family, initially as a rash decision, and the audience follow the ups and downs of adopting three siblings into their home. Not only do we see their reactions, but we also see extended family opinions and resentments, and how everyone's opinion changes when they eventually all get along and begin to become a family. There is wholly a theme of togetherness, even in the scenes where the adults attend a support group and we see everyone's perspectives of fostering different children. I thought it was a really bitter sweet film that captured so many different aspects of fostering and raising children, and the stigma around adopting, including from those who want to adopt, to those who ultimately sacrifice their children to "the system". A really sweet film that most people would enjoy and certainly get a laugh from, I would give this a 4 out of 5 star rating.

TV Show: Russell Howard & Mum: Globetrotters
I am a huge fan of Russell Howard and previously have loved his Russell Howard & Mum: USA Road Trip, now the two of them are back and are travelling around South Asia. This show is hilarious, you see the usual quips and funny comments made by Russell and altogether you see their bond as son and mother and their reactions to the situations they are put in. Russell's mum Ninette is adorable and such a lovely woman, who may seem a little away with the fairies at times but makes for amazing comedy throughout the show, and I think it's because she's so relatable too! A great show to watch if you want to imagine what taking your parents on a gap-year travel would be like. Every episode has me in fits of laughter. If you get a chance to catch up on the show I'd highly recommend it for a good laugh.

Moment of the Month: Olivia Colman winning her OSCAR and BAFTA
I think last, but certainly not least, Olivia Colman truly deserves a mention for winning Best Actress at the BAFTA's and The Academy Awards. Her acceptance speech/reaction on the OSCARS stage was adorable, hilarious and inspiring to see. She was in a complete state of shock on the evening but her speech was pure happiness and hilarity. The pinnacle moment being Colman blowing a raspberry as the producers of the night ask her to wrap up her speech.
Likewise at the BAFTA's she was so ecstatic for winning the award and completely shaken up that she couldn't read her speech notes but the crowd loved her nonetheless. She even made fun of herself and enjoyed the celebration of The Favourite being one of the favourites of the night and quipped about "getting drunk later". One moment I really loved from Colman winning was how she wanted to share the award with Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone stating that she thought they were all leads and that she'll "scratch their names in to it" (referring to the award). Absolutely deserving of the awards, congratulations.
